Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

This beautiful Christmas song was originally written by Hugh Martin (mostly) and Ralph Blane (perhaps a little) for the musical film Meet Me in St. Louis. It's been covered a million times already, but I didn't let that stop me from having a go and making it a million and one:

Interestingly the lyrics that Hugh Martin first wrote for this are generally considered more depressing than the lyrics that appeared in the film and became well known from that. For example, they originally started out with:

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past

Hugh Martin was told to cheer it up a bit before filming began and the first lines became the now-familiar:

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight

So, if this or any other version of the song sounds a little depressing, one could argue that it's true to the writer's original intent... Personally though I would argue that there is nothing depressing about letting the brevity and unpredictability of life remind us to make the most of the time we have with the people we love!
